APL Logistics, a global supply chain logistics company and part of the Kintetsu World Express – KWE Group, has gone on to open a special distribution and fulfilment warehouse in the Port of Amsterdam. The facility shows that the long-standing European business of APL Logistics is still growing and that the company is committed to investing in infrastructure when customers need it.
According to the president of APL Logistics, Thad Bedard, “This center is a direct response to what our European customers have asked for – more capabilities, better integration, and a partner they can count on for the long term. The Netherlands has always been a key part of our European operations, and Amsterdam is the next logical step in building the infrastructure our customers need to compete in a world that is becoming more complicated.”
Building on a Strong Base
APL Logistics helps customers in the retail, consumer, industrial, and automotive sectors from offices in the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, and Turkey, as well as France. They also deliver warehousing solutions across EMEA through a network of trusted partners. The Amsterdam facility is a single, purpose-built hub for order management, fulfillment, and distribution. As a neutral supply chain partner, APL Logistics works with both its own facilities and those of trusted third-party operators to find the ideal solution for each customer.
The facility
The distribution and fulfilment warehouse is located in the Atlaspark estate and has 13 loading docks. It covers 10,200 square meters. The Port of Amsterdam has connections by barge, rail, road, and air, making it a wonderful place to serve customers all over the Netherlands along with Western Europe. The Port of Rotterdam, which is Europe’s largest port by volume, is also close to the facility. This makes it easier to get to major deep-sea shipping routes as well as continental freight flows.
Technology and Skills
The semi-automated center has self-driving mobile robots and an automated conveyor system. It connects directly to the global technology infrastructure of APL Logistics, which makes it easy for customers to integrate their systems and see every step of the purchase order right from start to finish. Services include checking quality, putting price tags on items, picking and packing at the store level, and also shipping across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Says the Regional Vice President, EMEA, at APL Logistics, Kim Overman, “Our customers across Europe face real pressure – volatile routing, shifting regulatory requirements, and the constant drive to improve speed while reducing cost and emissions. Amsterdam gives us the platform to respond with precision, combining outstanding multimodal connectivity with our global digital tools and dedicated account teams to deliver purchase-order-level visibility and control from origin to destination.”
The Amsterdam center is an addition to the already strong network of APL Logistics in Europe. Apparently, there are more changes that are planned for 2026 and beyond.
