The SPAR Austria Group has gone on to announce that it will execute the SSI Schäfer WAMAS – the new Warehouse Management System – WMS at about 30 warehouse facilities located in Italy, Austria, Croatia, Hungary, and Slovenia. The objective of this project is to make intralogistical processes more consistent and improve logistics’ efficiency and openness.
Updating the Warehouse Logistics
It is well to note that SPAR is one of the biggest retail companies in Europe and supplies millions of people with food and other regular products every day. SPAR ICS, the IT department of the SPAR Austria Group, is very important to the company’s efforts to go digital. The new Warehouse Management System will create a single system that can meet the needs of all the different warehouse locations.
SPAR ICS has about 750 IT professionals who are in charge of creating and keeping up with digital processes. The goal of upgrading the WAMAS solutions that have been in use for over 20 years is to make warehouse logistics operate even better.
WAMAS Enterprise WMS was designed just for international retail groups like SPAR. It has a central software instance that operates in two data centers that are geo-redundant. This makes sure that the WMS application is always available and that warehouse locations can access it in their own language.
Harmonization Leads to More Efficiency
SSI Schäfer’s structured program management approach makes it possible to bring all of the different WAMAS software versions into line with each other. This is meant to make sure that all warehouses meet the same technological standards while still meeting the needs of each site.
The Managing Director of SPAR ICS, Andreas Kranabitl, says that “Our aim at SPAR ICS is to implement uniform corporate software solutions. The diversity of our warehouses – from wholesale to automated to e-commerce warehouses – presents us with particular challenges. With the upgrade of all warehouses to the latest version of the proven WAMAS WMS, we are technologically future-proof and can significantly improve product availability.”
The new logistics center in Klinča Sela, Croatia, is an outstanding instance of how to use this strategy. It is the biggest warehouse for the SPAR Austria Group, with about 500 employees and more than 100,000 pallet spaces. It makes sure that about 140 stores in Croatia have what they need, and it integrates into upstream and downstream systems seamlessly, making sure that goods move quickly.
There are many benefits to upgrading the WAMAS WMS, such as a single, scalable system landscape and improved processes. By strategically aligning its software, SPAR ICS reaffirms its role as a leader in innovation within the group and also aims for a strong, connected logistics network across Europe.
