DP World has finished the phase one construction of new Dominican Republic warehouse at its Economic Zone in Caucedo. This is indeed an important step in the continuous growth of the facility and the company’s attempts to broaden logistics capacity within the region.

The new new Dominican Republic warehouse, which is called Warehouse 8, is being constructed in stages and will offer around 613,500 square feet, or 57,000 square meters, of warehousing and distribution area when the project is finished.

The warehouse is situated next to the Port of Caucaso and is meant to serve manufacturers, logistics providers, and distributors, as well as companies wanting to set up or grow operations across the Caribbean and the Americas.

According to Manuel Martinez, CEO of DP World Dominican Republic, “The completion of this first phase marks another milestone in our continued investment in Caucedo and the Dominican Republic’s growing role in regional trade. As we advance construction of this new facility, we are expanding the infrastructure needed to help businesses establish regional distribution networks, strengthen supply chains, and connect with international markets.”

Integrated Logistics Capability Enhancement

The fact is that the gradual development of Warehouse 8 will provide additional capacity to the Economic Zone of DP World, which combines port facilities, warehousing, distribution, and value-added logistics services into one logistics framework.

Upon completion, the facility will facilitate storage, inventory control, distribution, and value-added logistics, as well as regional supply chain operations. Its flexibility allows customers to adapt operations to business requirements.

The construction is projected to provide support for almost 300 to 500 jobs once the customer occupancy and operations ramp up, resulting in local job creation and economic expansion.

It is well to be noted that the DP World Economic Zone shares a customs perimeter with the Port of Caucaso, allowing the free flow of cargo between the two facilities. This combination provides the availability of customs 24/7 to streamline handling of cargo, managing inventory, and shipment distribution.

According to Vice President of Economic Zones, DP World Dominican Republic, Jorge Diaz, “Expanding warehouse capacity will help us meet growing demand for flexible, efficient logistics solutions across the Caribbean and the Americas. What sets DP World Economic Zones apart is the ability to connect warehousing, distribution, and port operations within a single customs-controlled environment. This integration helps our customers simplify their supply chains, move goods more efficiently, and scale their operations as their businesses grow.”

Supporting the Growth of Regional Trade and Nearshoring

The warehouse development further enhances the investment made by DP World in Caucedo as a regional trade and logistics center, taking advantage of its advantageous location and links to international shipping routes and national highways, as well as nearby airports, to offer quick and effective access to markets that span the Americas and Europe.

Interestingly, DP World is moving forward with proposals to broaden the Port of Caucedo and adjoining Free Trade Zone by constructing utilities, commercial facilities, new roads, and pre-built storage units.

The wider project aims to boost the yearly container handling capacity of the port from 2.5 million to about 3.1 million TEUs and free up 225 hectares of extra land for development.

DP World believes the total expansion could bring in $3.9 billion in FDI and promote $4 billion in new manufacturing output, offering possibilities for businesses looking to broaden their production and delivery networks that are in proximity to North American markets.

DP World has been present in the Dominican Republic for over 25 years, since 2003, with more than US$700 million invested in the development and modernization of the Port of Caucedo.

The successful completion of the first phase of Warehouse 8 further broadens the logistics footprint of the company and strengthens its long-term commitment to fostering trade and economic growth in the country.
