AI Summary

DP World is growing its niche data center logistics network in US to facilitate the swift deployment when it comes to artificial intelligence – AI and cloud infrastructure as technology businesses face mounting pressure to securely handle and install increasingly important and sophisticated equipment.

DP World supports almost 50 data center sites across the US and offers specialized logistics services to some of the largest hyperscalers and tech companies in the world.

DP World’s expansion of data center logistics network in US comes after a time of significant growth in the U.S. data center market. As reported by the Pew Research Center, there are over 1,500 new facilities in development throughout various stages across the country that could increase the existing footprint within the US to more than 3,000 operating data centers by close to 50%.

At the back of this growth is an increasingly complicated global supply chain. Servers, GPUs, networking equipment, and transformers, as well as cooling systems, have to be shipped, protected, set up, and supplied against aggressive installation and deployment schedules. Even a single critical component delay can impact the timing of when new compute capacity becomes available.

A survey of 100 North American data center organization executives found that 96% said cybersecurity is one of their primary supply chain issues, emphasizing the increasing significance of safety, transparency, and robustness as AI infrastructure expands.

Says Ya-Han Brownlee-Chen, vice president of data center strategy at DP World Americas, “The infrastructure powering AI depends on an increasingly sophisticated global supply chain. A delayed server, transformer, or other critical component can have implications well beyond transportation when data centers are being built and commissioned against demanding timelines. Our expanding U.S. footprint brings transportation, inventory management, configuration, and deployment capabilities together to give customers greater control from origin through installation.”

From Factory to the Data Center

With over 10 years of expertise in cloud and data center logistics, DP World operates in over 80 countries and provides support to five of the seven largest technology companies in the world.

Its integrated U.S. network links inventory management, equipment configuration, international freight, specialized warehousing, and final deployment. The services include inbound receipt and examination, kitting and pre-assembly, server setup and evaluation, rack integration, white-glove shipping, asset monitoring, spare-parts administration, and reversible logistics.

DP World developed an approach for a safe, large-volume server rack arrangement for an established global technology company with rigorous quality and cleanliness standards. The solution included kitting, cabling, inbound handling, configuration, validation as well as outbound shipping in a cleanroom-equipped, continuously tracked setting.

The operation showed the capacity to set up as many as 75 custom server racks per week, with about 1,300 racks built, tested as well as shipped per year. Later the model was duplicated in three other locations around the world.

Securing Critical AI Infrastructure

With the increasing value and complexity of AI hardware, accurate inventory management and complete end-to-end visibility are becoming crucial for infrastructure deployments.

The cloud and data center operations of DP World have achieved over 99% inventory precision among around $2 billion of managed assets, indicating its capacity to operate substantial technology infrastructure at scale.

Adds Brownlee-Chen, “Every piece of equipment has to be accounted for, protected, and delivered at the right point in the deployment schedule. By combining global transportation with inventory visibility, configuration, secure handling, and specialized delivery, we can reduce handoffs and give customers greater control over infrastructure that is increasingly critical to their growth.”
