Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi of India met Mr Robert Maersk Uggla, Chairman of Maersk, in Gothenburg as they discussed boosting investment and improving collaboration throughout fast-growing maritime-logistics in India as well as infrastructure sectors.

The meeting underscored the robust and enduring partnership between India and Maersk, the global shipping and logistics behemoth, with talks revolving around identifying new opportunities for growth within port infrastructure, supply chain development, maritime logistics, and green shipping along with skilled workforce mobility.

According to Prime Minister Modi, India has emerged as an important global manufacturing, trade and logistics hub fuelled by transformative programs including PM Gati Shakti, Sagarmala, National Logistics Policy, along with port-led development programmes. He highlighted the huge investment opportunity in maritime-logistics in India and called on Maersk to ramp up its involvement in the next leg of infrastructure growth in the country.

PM Modi thanked Maersk’s established presence and contribution in India, notably in enhancing supply chain integration, container logistics, and maritime connectivity. He called upon the organisation to tap new areas of investment in port modernisation, multi-modal logistics, storage, and inland connectivity as well as digital supply chain solutions.

During the discussions, the two sides examined opportunities to promote cooperation on green shipping and maritime decarbonisation, which are becoming progressively critical to the development of global trade. Discussions covered potential co-operation on cleaner fuels, sustainable maritime activities, energy-efficient logistics systems and environmentally friendly shipping practices.

Skilled mobility along with workforce development was also one of the main topics of the meeting, and both sides discussed ways to enhance collaboration in maritime talent, skill development and training to cater to the evolving demands of the global shipping and logistics industry.

The engagement underscores the increasing significance of India in the global trade networks and its desire to become a major logistics and maritime hub. Investments in ports, logistics and integrated infrastructure are considered major enablers for India’s economic growth and competitiveness in the decade to come.

Prime Minister Modi’s interaction with Maersk leadership further highlights India’s dedication to building solid relationships with global industry leaders to develop robust supply chains, advanced maritime infrastructure, and environmentally friendly trade ecosystems.

The meeting in Gothenburg gives a boost to the India-Maersk cooperation and opens up prospects for deeper cooperation in terms of ports, green shipping, logistics, and future-ready maritime solutions, in line with the vision of India to become an internationally connected economic powerhouse.
