DHL Supply Chain has introduced a national forward stocking solution to speed up data center deployment and upkeep in key U.S. and Canadian markets, thereby helping data center operators to go ahead and meet rising demand while not risking critical downtime. It is worth noting that expanded data center logistics network from DHL will cut delivery time for mission-critical installation and replacement parts to major facilities from days to hours.
The service logistics network of DHL, with over 150 locations throughout the U.S. as well as Canada, delivers mission-critical installation and replacement components within four hours of client requests, enabling high-value data center equipment manufacturers to fulfill high-demand installation timelines and react promptly to service events.
The expansion of data center logistics network from DHL comes in response to requests from data center equipment manufacturers to meet deployment timelines and preserve system uptime amid extended delivery times and rising demand for digital infrastructure. Notably, 57% of major data center breakdowns cost over $100,000, and one in five cost more than $1 million, as reported by Uptime Institute Intelligence.
Additional research indicates average lead times for data center equipment have risen to 42 weeks, up 83% from 2019 levels, with 57% of data center projects reporting postponements of three months or more in 2025.
Hyperscale and colocation operators scrambling to deploy new capacity online are increasingly calling on equipment manufacturers to offer quick access when it comes to installation and replacement components that are capable of keeping projects on track and also critical infrastructure running without any sort of interruption.
The typical process is that manufacturing plants ship installation and replacement equipment parts to field technicians, with essential components taking 24 to 48 hours to be delivered on site. The national forward stocking footprint of DHL moves inventory closer to where it is needed, allowing manufacturers to speed up installations, enhance responsiveness to service, and cut turnaround times from days to hours.
Interestingly, the solution is already being used to help manufacturers of data center cooling equipment minimize the latency that comes with traditional fulfillment models while enhancing responsiveness at scale to large installed bases of equipment. The forward stocking network also accommodates a wide range of data center infrastructure providers, including power distribution, backup power, and various other capital equipment manufacturers who need rapid parts fulfillment.
According to the vice president of service logistics, DHL Supply Chain North America, Jenny Sander, “As demand for AI and other computing workloads outpaces development, data center operators are under pressure to bring new systems online faster while maintaining uptime across existing infrastructure. Equipment manufacturers need service models that position these critical installation and replacement parts closer to the point of use to reclaim valuable time from stretched project schedules. Our forward stocking network will accelerate deployment schedules, improve parts availability, and help manufacturers meet customer demand for rapid installation support and service response.”
The fact is that warehouse management and parts distribution technology, analytics, and real-time visibility tools allow manufacturers to optimize inventory placement, predict demand, and track parts as they flow via the network. The forward stocking solution adds to the broader data center logistics service portfolio of DHL Supply Chain. DHL said earlier in 2026 that it will add 10 warehouse sites throughout North America, bringing the total to over 7 million square feet of capacity in order to facilitate the rapid development of hyperscale and colocation infrastructure. The network offers white-glove handling and rack configuration as well as specialized transportation from warehouse to site when it comes to high-value and delicate equipment.
Working across DHL divisions, customers can integrate fast-response parts support with warehousing, multimodal transportation, global freight forwarding, customs knowledge, and specialized road transportation for large or heavy parts to offer an end-to-end logistics service for the whole data center infrastructure lifespan.
